We have changed our system and processes for referee appointments for Season 2010/2011 and you need to make sure you are fully aware of these.
In brief we are using a web based appointments system called ‘who’s the ref’ and all match officials and club fixtures secretaries will be obliged to use the system. For more details and contact details on the system please check the ‘referee appointments’ section of this website
Welcome to the Essex Society of Rugby Football Union Referees website.
The society was formed over 40 years ago and has around 50 members. I say around because at the present moment Referee numbers throughout the game are dwindling. Remember - without a referee you do not get a game.

We have regular meetings on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Ford County Cricket Ground, Chelmsford.
Changes were recently made to Game Regulations 7.2 and 7.3.
The Regulation has, however, now been revised as the iRB has ruled that it is not permissible for the referee to require that an additional player be removed from the field of play when a front row player is temporarily or permanently suspended and uncontested scrums result. Read More »
The request for a Ruling arises from the way that players are required to join a ruck which appears to be covered by a number of sections in the Law Book and in particular:
Law 16.2 (b)
A player joining a ruck must bind onto the ruck with at least one arm around the body of a team-mate using the whole arm.
Law 10 4 (j) Players must not charge into a ruck or maul without binding onto a player in the ruck or maul. Read More »

When I sent out the appointments for September email to request availability, I received a number of bounced email advices and I am sure that I do not have everyone’s address.
No email address = no advice of appointments.
